Avery Mephistopheles' Stout 2010
Colorado, 15.92% alc./vol. Style: Imperial Stout |
Mephistopheles is one of the original Faustian seven princes of hell. His name comes from the Hebrew meaning “destroyer of the good”, and his Imperial Stout will tear you to shreds. Send a blueberry to Hades and you‟ll get an idea of the powerful aromas coming from this oilslick of a beer. The flavour is a tarry demon of burnt sugar that‟ll smolder within you until you feel it in your fingertips. This stout isn't sweet, though. It‟s a savory blend of wood, earth and fire, and is simply an apocalypse of a beer. |
Avery The Beast Grand Cru Ale 2008
Colorado, 16.31% alc./vol. Style: Belgian Strong Ale |
If you ever wondered what it would be like if someone replaced your mouth with a pinball machine, then this is the beer for you. Avery has combined fire-breathing strength with massive complexity in this beer that begins with aromas of raisins and toasted pumpkin seeds and follows with sweet and savory flavours of dried fruits, honey and pine resin. |
BrewDog Paradox
(Isle of Arran Edition, Batch #016) Scotland, 10% alc./vol. Style: Imperial Stout |
This whiskey barrel-aged Imperial Stout starts like a beer and ends like a scotch. Really. It‟s kinda neat. It‟s not overly peaty the way some of these concoctions can turn out, but rather it‟s smooth, smoky and sweet; like a chocolate, vanilla and caramel sundae sprinkled with caviar. We suggest ordering one from our cellar at the beginning of your meal and allowing it to warm up so you can have it with dessert. |
DeuS
Belgium/France, 11.5% alc./vol. Scotland, 10% alc./vol. Style: Belgian Strong Ale |
Before you ask for a bottle of champagne, try this—perhaps one of the most unique and special beers on our list. DeuS combines the best of two worlds: a beer brewed in Belgium, it is then refined in France, where it undergoes the same maturation and bottling procedure to make champagne. The result is possibly one of the finest beers in the world. Expect a lively body of grape and apple with a unique, dry finish. |
Fuller's Vintage Ale
England, 8.5% alc./vol. Style: English Strong Ale |
Since 1997, the storied London brewery Fuller's has produced an annual vintage ale. Their intent has been to brew a strong English ale with the finest old-world hops and malts of the season to create a beer that develops with age, replete with all the boozy fruit notes and aromas that define the style. We've been cellaring their beers since we've opened, and hope to keep doing it until the end of time. If you're looking for the best day ever, grab some friends and try a vertical tasting of all the vintages we have left. 2006: Super Styrian hops and floor malted barley. 2007: Fuggles, Target, and Super Styrian hops. 2008: Northdown and Challanger hops, floor malted Maris Otter malt. 2009: Kent-grown Golding hops and East Anglican Tipple malted barley. 2010: Goldings and Fuggls hops, dry-hopped with Golding and Target hops, Tipple malted barley. 2011: Goldings, Organic First Gold and Sovereign hops; organic barley |
Brooklyn Black Ops
New York, 11.3% alc./vol. Style: Imperial Stout |
Another one of our really ridiculously rare offerings is this bourbon barrel-aged Imperial stout; the production run of which was limited to a scant 1000 cases. Pouring out like an oil tanker run aground, this black beer soaks up all available light and emits deep chocolate and coffee flavours, with the 4 month barrel-ageing coming through with notes of oak and vanilla. A bottle re-fermentation using champagne yeast has also added a light effervescence to the entire experience. |
Port Brewing Older Viscosity 2009
California, 13.7% alc./vol. Style: American Strong Ale |
C'mon, we dare you to try this one. What-you chicken? Too reluctant to have all your senses bombarded by the darkest beer on our menu? Scared that you might be overpowered by this deep black, chewy, 100% bourbon barrel aged beer? Maybe you can't handle the steamroller assult of bitter chocolate, molasses, tobacco, leather and alcohol that this ale has to offer. Oh, you can? Well, cheers then. |
Samual Adams Utopias 2011
Massachussetts, 27% alc./vol. Style: American Strong Ale |
Some folks will dispute the fact that Utopias is the strongest beer ever brewed. Well, those folks are wrong. This piece of brewing genius clocks in at an astounding 27% alcohol, without using the gimmick of freezing and removing part of the water content. Strength aside, this silken elixir carries strong and smooth flavours of sherry, Manischewitz wine and maple. Also present is a beautifully rendered umami complexity that contributes savory soy notes. So rich and rare, we only sell it by the shot. |
Struise Pannepot Grand Reserva 2005
Belgium, 10% alc./vol. Style: Belgian Strong Ale |
This small family company recently sprouted from nowhere to become one of the most highly sought-after brewers in the international craft market, and their Pannepot Grand Reserva is a perfect example as to why. Dark, spicy and complex, this beer drinks somewhere between a strong Trappist ale and a steak dinner. Brewed with spices, aged for 14 months in French oak and then a further 8 months in reclaimed Calvados casks; the combination of all these courageous techniques has produced an outstandingly unique beer. |
